| The idea for Peak Princess struck me during a picnic in the park with my god-daughter Tilly three years ago, not long after we'd moved up to the Peak District from London. |

I was taking a career break from my exciting but stressful, deadline-driven job as a radio producer and thought there might be a gap in the market for good quality handmade clothes for children.(In case you're wondering, it's not quite such a left-field career change as my mother was a couture dressmaker in the 60s whose designs were featured in Vogue and my grandmother was a milliner, so I grew up sewing).
I ran up two samples - a pinafore and a top & culottes. Friends and family loved them. Liberty of London fabrics agreed to supply me. My first collection was launched in spring 2009. Liberty's blog called my designs: "Truly exclusive, personal and original...not something you'd find on the high street. |
Mia Rose shift in Liberty Ros; Izzy Whizzy top & culottes in Liberty Millie; Bella Luella puff sleeve dress in Liberty Wiltshire; Tilly Toadstool pinafore in Liberty Tatum

The first four dresses for baby girls were named after my friends' little girls - the Tilly Toadstool pinafore; the Izzy Whizzy baby top & culottes; the Bella Luella puff sleeve dress and the Mia Rose shift dress. I made them in just five Liberty prints - Ros, Millie, Wiltshire, Tatum and Mark.
Due to demand the range of designs and prints has expanded so I now make for children up to 9 years old, including a capsule boys' range and even make men's shirts and ladies' blouses - all made-to-order in your choice of more than 50 Liberty prints. Luckily friends' families have grown to so I'm never lacking in inspiration for newborns to name my designs after. |

Until recently it was just me handmaking everything myself but with demand growing my waiting list was getting too long. So I was delighted to discover Millie Crawford, an experienced dress-maker who used to manage wedding dress-designer Anneliese Sharp's Chelsea store. Millie loves making Liberty print dresses for her two little girls - Rose and Kate so I'm over the moon she's going to be able to give me a hand making dresses and blouses.
Local fabric designer Kate Yorke hand-makes beautiful matching Liberty print accessories for me. She lives just down the road and can often be spotted on her old-fashioned push-bike delivering a basket of hair clips. (My Emily Kate triple pleat pinafore is named in honour of her little girl

I love the whole creative process from designing new patterns to making each item of clothing. The best bit is getting to sit in Liberty of London's fabric room to choose a new range of prints each spring and summer. But I'm a self-confessed nerd and love designing my own website and doing my own accounts too!
As a journalist I enjoy the PR side of the business and have been fortunate enough to have wonderful coverage in magazines like Country Living, Conde Nast Brides, Easy Living, Cosmo Brides and The Lady, as well as newspapers like the Guardian and The Daily Mail. I've been interviewed on BBC Radio Derby and BBC Breakfast TV too.
If you need high resolution images, samples for a photo shoot or just want to know more about the business, just give me a call on 01663 751 126 or 07818 411 791 or email me mail at peakprincess dot co dot uk
